Amazon.com Product Description Practice your hitting stroke from the comfort of your backyard with the Jugs Toss Machine. Designed to hold up to 14 baseballs or 10 softballs, the Toss Machine requires only a small space to use (10 by 10 feet), so you can easily set it up in the gym, basement, or garage if a backyard isn't available. Even better, it requires no electricity, with an internal rechargeable battery that runs continuously for up to 8 hours on a single charge. Just set it up in front of a backstop and you're ready to go. Once in position, the Toss Machine throws a ball into the air once every five seconds, helping you develop superior hand-eye coordination and a quick bat. As an alternative, coaches can also use the machine to hit grounders for offensive and defensive drills. The Toss Machine--which weighs just 13 pounds--comes with a free 24-page Toss Machine Book and a Jugs Throw-Down home plate. The Toss Machine is compatible with baseballs, softballs (11 or 12 inches), Sting-Free balls, dimpled and seamed balls, Lite-Flite balls, Softie small balls, Jugs Pearl balls, and Jugs Bulldog balls.

Jugs vs Easton Soft Toss Elite! June 1, 2009 Spinner (Burlington, VT USA) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I accidentally purchased both, so I put them to a side-by-side test. Both are battery powered with similar capacity. The Easton throws farther, but has seems less consistently accurate. The Jugs is heavier due to a cast metal base, so maybe that consistency is due to less of a recoil effect. The Easton has an adjustment for height of toss, which Jugs does not. They have different firing mechanisms, the Easton has a spring loaded mechanism and the Jugs has a rotating arm. Both strike the ball. I liked the Easton's ball handling system better. It holds the 'on-deck' ball back so it doesn't touch the ball being tossed. Overall, the Easton plastic seem to have more give than the Juggs. I liked the Jugs stability and accuracy more so I returned the Easton.
Improved batting July 14, 2009 Michael R. Cordrey (Sacramento, CA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
My 10 year old daughter uses this soft toss machine with the Jugs Instant Screen (also reviewed by me). She loads the balls and operates it without me. If I'm not there, she still does her training. I'm a 42 year old father and will hit a couple dozen periodically for fun.
Arrived one week before softball All Stars. Her batting has clearly improved. In four All Star softball games in 2009, she NEVER struck out. It's great to teach the batter to keep an eye on the ball. I see this useful for players that "pull" their head and eyes toward 3rd base. 10 minutes per day is adequate. I find the only time I mis-hit now is when I watch the machine instead of the ball.
We use standard baseballs for batting training as they are smaller target than softballs. She will hit a few softballs occasionally. Strong batters may want to use the dimpled balls to preserve their bats. Pitch height is not adjustable, so sometimes we place it atop a 5 gallon bucket. However, ball height is adequate.
We did NOT get the remote control. The 5 second pause is adequate to turn it off as needed. Perhaps the timing is predictable but pitching speed at her age hasn't tested her perception either. Maybe the remote can alter the tempo ... but not likely. The machine has a spring that is cycled and I can't imagine the remote altering that.
Battery use-time has NOT been an issue. However, we don't need a quick charge and we don't take it to any team practices.
The manual gives instruction for fielder drills but we haven't tried them.
The Instant Net is important part of this tool. Only mis-hits go over/around the net. We use this in the backyard. The mis-hits don't seem to have the power to break windows...yet. We keep the net set up all week and bring the toss machine out as needed. The soft toss machine and Instant Net take up a relatively small patch of back yard.
Softballs are a little heavy May 9, 2010 Anthony Demeo (Washington, DC USA) It only tooses softballs about 30" so I had to modify the mechine (by adding a second spring) to get it to toss softballs to the 120" I was looking for... it was easy to modify by removing the cover and replacing the two spring bolts with longer ones and then adding a spring... all parts where available at the local hardware store (note the upper bolt is metric and lower is standers). The modifcation works great but you can tell it puts a strain on the motor and battery... time will tell how long it will last... next I will replace the motor... good luck :)
